James 5:16 - "Anyone who lives the way God wants can pray, and great things will happen"

I want you to think for a moment about who your closest friends are. When you hang out, do you have trouble talking to them? Or is it easy? My guess is that you don't really struggle that much to talk to your good friends. But if you're honest, talking to God or praying can feel overwhelming at times. You may not feel like you know the right words to say or how to go about praying.

With that in mind, here are a few tips to help get you unstuck when praying.

Anyone Can Pray - It's good news to know that you don't have to be a Bible scholar or have a ton of scriptures memorized. You can begin praying right now.

Prayer Is Just Connecting With God - You can connect with God just like you would with friends. Connect with God by telling him your thoughts, feelings, fears, and dreams.

Pray The Word - This is freeing, when you realize that you don't have to always come up with stuff to pray. Use your Bible to help you and pray scriptures out over your life and others.

Pray with Authority - You can know that God hears you when you pray and great things will happen when you pray.

Realize that prayer is a lot like talking to a friend. There is no right way to do it, just like there is no one right way to pray. Take the pressure off yourself to pray the "right way" and begin simply spending time with God.

"To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance; evil behavior and perverse speech." Proverbs 8:13 (NIV)

What happens when you don't do well for a grade at school? Do you shift the blame off yourself and onto someone or something else? It can be easy to want to do that. When you don't get the grade you feel you deserve, it can be easy to want to defend yourself.

You might try to speak up and out to get attention and let everyone know why the grade you got was unfair. Now, it's true, there might be a group project you worked on where someone didn't do their part, and the grade you got was not fair. But for the most part, if you've got a good teacher, your grades reflect you and the work you did. (Or didn't do)

Shifting the blame to someone else isn't healthy. In fact, it's a form of pride. Pride in our lives often shows up as needing to defend ourselves. We feel the need for justice, and so we go out of our way to let everyone know our situation.

Pride isn't a good trait. When it comes down to it, pride lifts up our own interests and needs over those of others. It says I'm right and someone else is wrong. It often ignores the feelings and thoughts of others and of God.

God doesn't want pride to become a part of our lives because of what it does to our heart and our relationship with Him. Pride will keep us from following God and His word. When run to the ultimate end, most sin begins with pride and thinking we know better than God.

So today, examine your heart. See if you've allowed pride to become a habit. If you have, just ask God for His help. He can show you what to change and what to do to not let pride rule your life today. Taken from studentdevos.com

KUMC loves to support our community! Our mission for March is our very own Migrant Ministry which has been around for many years and has also worked closely alongside the Coalition of Florida Farmworker Organizations, Inc (COFFO). COFFO is a statewide non-profit organization, whose main objective is to enhance the living and working conditions of migrant and seasonal farmworkers and the rural poor in Florida. They provide services like Disaster Relief Assistance and Coordination, Emergency Assistance, Self-Sufficiency programs, Job training and Technical Assistance programs, Immigration services, Food Pantry, and a few others.

KUMC has supported COFFO for many years and we are thankful to God, to you, and to our wonderful volunteers who work alongside the staff at COFFO, who make this possible. We are proud to be part of this wonderful organization and pray that God's love be poured on those who cross paths with this ministry.

During the month of March, we will be collecting non-perishable food items. You can bring donations on Sundays or during the week to the church. Your contribution is used to supplement the vegetables with non-perishable items that serve the entire family. If you would like to make any monetary contributions, you may give directly on our website under "Mission of the Month" or by check made out to KUMC with a 'Migrants' notation on the memo.
